또 간만에 돌아온 유튜브 영어자막. 한동안 열심히 또 하다가, 갑자기 의욕상실됐었지만 다시 돌아왔습니다. 이 컨텐츠의 제목을 보자마자, 아 여기서 영어로 알면 좋을 만한 표현이 있어서 무조건 해야겠다 싶기도 해서 바로 착수했습니다. 오늘의 컨텐츠는 '빈부즐 젤리 ASMR'라고 쓰고, 그냥 빈부즐 젤리 먹기...라고 쓰고 싶습니다. ASMR...?인가 싶지만ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 어쨋든 썸네일부터 충격적인 오늘의 영상 보고 오시길 바랍니다.

+ 여기 나오는 bean boozled jelly 라는 표현에서 Bean boozled이라는 표현은 사실 bamboozled에서 bam대신 bean(콩) 젤리빈에 나오는 콩 부분을 이용해서 Bean boozled이라는 표현을 썼습니다. 이 뱀부즐이라는 표현은 '속이다, 어리둥절케 하다, 당황케 하다'라는 의미가 있습니다.
bamboozle이라는 단어는 문자 그대로 "누군가를 원숭이로 만들다"라는 뜻의 프랑스어 단어에서 유래 한 것으로 알려져 있습니다. bamboozle이라는 단어는 1700 년경에 언어로 처음 등장했고, 이 속어의 기원은 찾기가 매우 어렵고, 보통 또는 예상되는 단어가 만들어지는 규칙을 따르지 않는 경우가 많습니다.
사실상, 1700년대에 나온 이 단어의 기원은 아무도 모릅니다. 1920년대 언어학자 Ernest Weekley가 프랑스 어원 embabuiner 누군가를 원숭이로 만들다 라는 말에서 왔다고 말한 반면, Baboozle의 흔적은 스코틀랜드어 "bumbaze-헷갈리게 하다, 어리둥절하게 하다" 에서 왔다고도 합니다.
이렇게 아직 정확히 알지 못하는 어원에서 온 bamboozle이라는 표현은, 필자는 reddit이라는 사이트에서 제일 먼저 들어봤습니다. 레딧에선 '뱀부즐'이라는 표현은 누군가가 포스팅을 위해서 일부러 속이거나, 일부러 트롤링 하는 것들을 의미하는 것이죠.
인터넷에서 많이 쓰는 용어인데, 그걸 이용해서 마케팅으로 beanboozled jelly라고 냈으니, 똑똑하다고 해야겠죠? 한 색에 두가지 맛이 들어있는 걸 골라서 먹어야 하니, 헷갈리게하다, 어리둥절하게 하다라는 단어의 표현과 잘 맞기도 합니다.
오늘은 다른 것 보다도, 이 Bean-boozled jelly때문에 말이 길어 졌습니다. 필자도 뜻만 알고, 당연히 인터넷 용어 인줄만 알아서 당연히 역사가 길지 않은 단어라고 생각만 했다가, 이 포스팅을 위해서 나름 검색한 결과에 놀랐습니다. 1920년대와 길게는 1700년대 까지 거슬러 올라가니 신기하기도 합니다. 이렇듯 단어들도 뭔가 그때그때의 유행이 있는 것 보면 신기하고 재밌는 것 같습니다.
