[유튜브 영어 자막] - 소풍족

내 맘대로 유튜브 영어 자막을 달기 시작했다.
커뮤니티 자막 제공이 있었던 유튜브에서 사라졌다. 그 좋았던 시스템을 왜 굳이 없앴을까 용서가 안된다. 뭐 어쨌든 그래서 직접 좋아하는 유튜브 영상을 찾아서 자막을 달기 시작했는데, 이것 또한 얼마나 갈지 모르겠다. 누구보다 빠르게 난 남들과는 다르게 사그라드는 내 흥미... 얼른 더 흥해서 내 흥미를 계속 불 집혀주어랏!

그래서 달기 시작한 영상은 요새 내가 푹 빠져있는 소풍족 영상 -- 아니 이 분들 왜이렇게 구독자수가 안 오르는 거야 내가 답답해. 웬만한 예능 뺨치는 에디팅 실력, 소소한 여행풍경들, 둘의 케미가 이렇게나 대단한데 참 알 수 없는 유튜브 알고리즘이다. 특히, 여행을 못 가는 요새 시국에 찰떡 유튜브 💚💙

사실 자막을 달고 싶은 영상들이 한 두개가 아니지만, 적당한 대사량이 있고 내가 여러 번 돌려볼 만한 퀄리티의 영상을 골라보았다. 아니 사람에 따라선 적당한 대사량이 아니라고 볼 수도 있는데, 그들의 영상에서도 열심히 골라냈다. (최근의 영상 중에서 골라봄)

They are sort of similar because...

For the Korean Food Ambassador, the person would ONLY EAT KOREAN FOOD.

So this person won't be open-minded about local food at all.

So it's similar case with the outsider.

I think the outsider would only eat Korean food.

Outsider ; a person who won't try any new things to have an experience = won't eat any local food.

this person would just like to go to the well-known tourist spot only.

This is different term than what we used to know as an outsider.

In this tournament, they named it as a outsider.

The person who only does something famous & well-known,

doesn't try to meet new people and new unknown experiences.

And not even trying to eat unknown local food.

Such a stubborn person...

that person is very different from us, Picnic Crew.

How bad is the pickiness?

나는 전문적인 영어 번역가도 아니고, 원어민도 아닌 데다가, 한국에 온 지 4년 정도 되니 뇌가 굳는 느낌이지만 얼레벌레 번역 끝 

대부분은 쭉쭉 잘 써 내려가는 편이었지만 몇몇 부분은 사전으로 좀 더 나은 표현을 검색하고 고치기도 했다. 그리고 2명이 이렇게 합이 좋게 얘기하는 영상은 처음이다 보니 영상 자체의 자막이랑 두 명의 대사 부분이 다 같이 나오는 부분을 구별하려고 고민도 했다. @_@... 그래서 나름 생각해낸 것이 원래 자막은 /이렇게 안에/ | 겹치는 대화는 - 로 구별했다. 아예 한 명씩 이니셜을 부여해서 할까 했는데 그냥 간단하게 하이픈으로 대체했다. 

 

물론, 한국어를 영어로 번역하는 게 쉬운 일은 아닌 것 같다. (and vice versa) 뉘앙스나, 슬랭이나 문화를 알아야 아는 단어들이 나올 때는 꽤나 당황스럽다. 

 

이 영상에서 몇 가지만 뽑아본다면 제일 먼저는 'OOO월드컵'이었다. 이상형 월드컵, 같이 살기 싫은 룸메 스타일 월드컵... 많은 버전들이 있지만 월드컵 그대로 쓸까 해봤지만 tournament라는 표현을 썼다. 그리고 조별과제 타입은 group work type이라고 쓰고 설명을 더 했는데... 근데 한국말로 느껴지는 그 조별과제의 화남이 group work type에는 제대로 느껴지지 않는 듯했다. 😂특히 이 에피소드에서 어떤 사람인지를 설명하는 우리나라 단어들이 너무 제대로 꽂히는데 영어로 바꾸니 뭔가 그런 어감이 잘 살지 않는 것 같아서 아쉬웠다. (껄떡쇠가 flirt이 되는 것처럼...) 

 

번역을 하면서 나도 평소에 잘 안 썼던 단어들을 정리해봤다. 

 

* ominous ; giving the impression that something bad or unpleasant is going to happen; threatening; inauspicious. /// suggesting that something unpleasant is likely to happen /// '불길한, 나쁜 징조의, 전조의, (날씨가) 험악한(날씨가 안 좋은 날은 좋지 않은 일들이 잘 일어남)'  

 

*grouchy ; A grouch is a cranky person who complains a lot. /// easily annoyed and complaining /// 'moody' 보다 좀 더 강한 표현으로 '짜증 내는, 심통을 내는' ||| grumpy나 crabby랑 비슷한 표현이지만 같은 g로 시작하는 grumpy가 훨씬 더 익숙하다. 

 

사실 번역도 번역이지만 자막의 싱크를 맞추는게 여간 힘든일이 아니었다. 완성본의 싱크나 문법도 완벽하진 않았지만 그래도 보기엔 나쁘지 않으니 소풍족에게 메일을 바로 보냈다.
